MFR Report Card - June 2012

On June 25, 2012, EHS MFR Services issued “Report Cards” to each sponsored agency, which detailed call volume, PCR compliance (PCRs submitted to MFR Services compared to notifications made by the Medical Communications Centre). The report card also provided, for comparative purposes, statistical information for agencies in the appropriate region as well as the province overall.

76 of 201 sponsored agencies (38%) throughout the province received a plaque from MFR Services in recognition of their achievement of 75% or higher PCR compliance.

Philips HeartStart FRx - February 2009

EHS MFR Services is pleased to announce that the Philips HeartStart FRx has been selected as the preferred defibrillator device for the EHS MFR Program.

LIFEPAK 500 defibrillators previously provided by EHS to registered and fully sponsored EHS MFR agencies will be replaced with new HeartStart FRx devices in the near future.  In-service training will also be provided.

Please review the attached letter for more information on this initiative.

PCRs and Safety Vests - June 2008

Numbered PCR booklets have been issued to all EHS sponsored MFR agencies.  These new booklets help EHS MFR Services maintain accurate records through a centralized reporting/charting system.

Each EHS sponsored MFR agency has also received two yellow MFR safety vests, which offer improved visibility to help ensure safety when responding to medical calls. These vests replace the previously issued blue vests, which should be destroyed.

LP 500 Defibrillators - May 2008

In order to continue to move the EHS MFR program forward, on behalf of EHS Emergency Health Services and the EHS MFR Strategic Advisory Committee, we are pleased to announce that EHS MFR Services has purchased 65 Biphasic LIFEPAK 500 AED (automated external defibrillator) devices, complete with battery and carrying case, for EHS registered Medical First Response agencies. In many cases, EHS MFR agencies that currently have an older defibrillator may be eligible to have it upgraded with a LIFEPAK 500. An evaluation committee will be formed to review, accept or deny application forms received from interested agencies.

MMR Vaccination - July 2007

In May 2007, Dr. Robert Strang (Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection) announced an initiative for all health care workers in the province to receive a measles, mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR) in a protectective response to the ongoing outbreak of the mumps virus in Nova Scotia.

In July 2007, the EHS Medical First Response program announced its support of the province's initiative and sent letters to currently registered EHS MFRs to inform them of the opportunity for them to receive the MMR vaccine.
