Training and Registration

The course that is required for a person to become certified as a Medical First Responder is approximately a 40-hour program. This program builds on the advanced First Aid curriculum to include practical training on the use of tools/equipment provided by EHS and education about the EHS system.
Once an individual has earned their MFR certificate from one of the two EHS-authorized providers (see below), they may apply for registration with EHS MFR Services by submitting the MFR Registration/Re-Registration application and a copy of their MFR Certificate.

Registration with EHS MFR Services is for a three year period.
There are currently two EHS-authorized agencies providing MFR training:
Re-Registration

The Provincial Medical Director has determined that there are six of the compentencies that must be covered within the three year registration. These competencies are:
- Assessing Vital Signs
- Airway Management
- Primary Survey
- CPR
- AED
- Triage

It is important to remember that only refresher sessions approved by EHS MFR Services will qualify for re-registration credit.
